What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a system of medicine guided by established philosophies, principles, and theories. It takes a holistic view of health, recognising the interconnected relationship between the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, naturopathy aims to identify and address the underlying causes of illness using an individualised approach that supports the body’s natural ability to return to balance.

Naturopaths work with the body’s interconnected systems, identifying areas of imbalance, and supporting them through tailored treatment plans. These may include evidence-based and traditional approaches such as herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, supplements, dietary guidance, and flower essences, among others.

Naturopathy is a complementary medicine, meaning it is designed to work alongside conventional healthcare rather than replace it. Naturopaths are trained to work safely alongside other health professionals you may already be seeing, such as GPs, specialists, chiropractors, and physiotherapists etc.

When choosing a naturopath, it is important to ensure they are registered with a recognised naturopathic association. Membership indicates that the practitioner has completed tertiary-level education, holds professional indemnity insurance and a current First Aid certificate, and is committed to ongoing professional development to stay up to date with scientific and clinical advances.

Hi, I’m Brit Carter

I am a bachelor-qualified Naturopath based in Portland, Victoria.

Like many others, I’ve experienced the frustration of suboptimal health. I believe that true health is more than just the absence of disease and work closely with patients to find the root causes of their health concerns and help them live vibrantly.

As a Family Naturopath, I’ve had the privilege of supporting patients across all stages of life, from childhood eczema to unexplained fatigue or metabolic concerns, to the aches and pains of ageing. I hold a deep belief that the Earth has provided us with everything we need to thrive and I’m passionate about tailoring these gifts so that each person receives a treatment that is unique to them.
